Whittaker and Biggs operate one of the busiest and most successful auctions in the region. Auctions of general household furniture and effects are conducted on a weekly basis; collectable and reproduction auctions are held every month and fine art and antique auctions every three months. We boast a large attendance at all the auctions, both private and trade buyers and in particular the fine art and antique auctions attract buyers from the length and breadth of the country, including overseas buyers as well.

Partner, Allan Pickering, who is the auction room manager, auctioneer and valuer is available for pre-sale verbal appraisals without charge or obligation. He is also able to provide written valuations at competitive fees for probate, insurance or family division.

Whittaker & Biggs also have the facilities to deal with full house clearances and arrange removal and transport of goods to the auction rooms.

Our reputation has been built on a professional and friendly service together with competitive commission rates as follows:-

Auctions of general household furniture and effects – 10% commission plus £1.50 lotting fee.

Collectable and reproduction auctions – 10% commission plus a £2 lotting fee.

Fine art and antique auctions – 10% commission plus £2.50 lotting fee.

All the above charges are subject to V.A.T. at 17.5%

Viewing
All auctions are open for public viewing on the evening prior to the auction between 5.00p.m. – 7.00p.m. as well as one hour before the start of the auction.

Whittaker & Biggs operate a 15% buyers premium plus V.A.T. and accept payment with all major credit and debit cards (additional charges may apply for credit card payments).
